While the majority of the 2020 Baxter County Fair has been canceled, a couple of events will move forward. The livestock show is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at the fairgrounds, and the lawnmower races will be held Saturday at the Mountain Home Saddle Club Arena.
This year’s livestock show will be for junior and youth participants only, and it will not be open to the public. The show will be limited to participants, immediate family and the animals. Rabbit and poultry entries will not be accepted.
Swines will be checked in Thursday morning from 7 to 8, and weigh-ins will be held until 8:30. Cattle will be checked in from 8 to 9, and weigh-ins will go from 9 to 10.
The swine showmanship contest will start at 9 and be followed by market hogs, commercial gilts and breeding swines. Swines will be checked out after judging.
Following a one-hour lunch break, dairy cattle judging starts at 1 p.m. The next contests after dairy cattle will be bottle calves, junior beef showmanship, junior breeding cattle, commercial heifers and market steers. Cattle will be checked out after judging.
Meat and dairy goats and sheep will be shown Friday morning. Check-ins will be held from 7 to 8, and weigh-ins will continue until 9. The dairy goat sportsmanship contest starts at 9. Breeding dairy goats will follow and later get checked out.
The meat goat showmanship will be after the dairy goats and be followed by the breeding meat goats and wether dams.
The sheep judging will be the final contests of the livestock show. Sheep showmanship will follow the wether dams, and breeding sheep will wrap up the show. Sheep will be checked out after judging.

Gregg Farm Services will present Saturday’s lawnmower races. Admission is $5 per adult and $3 per child in first through 12th grades, and all ticket sales will go to Baxter County Fair projects. This year’s event will include pro races as the Mid-American Mower Racing Series (MAMRS) teams up with the Arkansas Lawn Mower Racing Association.
The pits will be open at 11 a.m. Practice laps for MAMRS and possibly local racers will be from noon to 1:45. Local racers will have another practice session from 3 to 3:45.
The MAMRS will have its heat races at 2 and 4, and the feature event is set for 6. The local racers will begin their two heat races at 5, and their two feature races will begin at 7.
