MHHS cross country teams dominate at Zizzer Invitational

The Mountain Home High School varsity and junior varsity cross country teams had a great showing at West Plains Tuesday, bringing home two first-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Competing at the Zizzer Invitational, Mountain Home won both the varsity boys and JV girls events.

In the varsity boys’ race, The Bombers had five of the top six finishers and 10 of the top 20. Whit Lawrence led the way by winning the race in exciting fashion, just one second ahead of West Plains’ Riley Simpson in a wild finish. Other top finishers for Mountain Home included Andrew Westphal in third place, Ky Bickford was fourth, Hendrix Huges was fifth, and Bryson Hodges was sixth.

The Lady Bombers finished second, led by Marcie Cudworth who easily won the race, beating the second-place runner by 19 seconds. Other top finishers for Mountain Home included Rylee Patterson who was sixth, Jordan Ritenburg was 14th, Emly Payne finished 15th, Whitney Wilber was 16th, and Mackenzi Clark was 17th.

In the JV girls’ race, Mountain Home won the team event. Aleah Hunt led the way by finishing third. Kelsey Roach was fourth, Katie Camp finished seventh, Annie Norcross was eighth, and Kaitlin Nelson was tenth.

The JV boys finished second with six of the top 10 runners. Darren Blount was Mountain Home’s top finisher in fourth place, followed by Max Hough who was sixth, Trey Czeschin who finished seventh, Tate McReynolds was eighth, William Hill was ninth, and Tucker Davidson was tenth.

The Mountain Home High School cross country teams will compete again next week on Thursday at home.
