The Bombers made multiple mistakes in the first half, trailed 38-21 at the break, but got two big defensive stops in the fourth quarter and rode the legs and arm of quarterback Bryce McKay to defeat the Pioneers 49-45.

In the first half, Mountain Home gave up a 78-yard touchdown on a kickoff return, an interception returned 30 yards for a touchdown, another interception returned inside the 1-yard line that set up another touchdown and committed three turnovers.

But in the second half, the Bombers defense stepped up huge. Batesville had five second half possessions. The first was a three and out, Batesville then put together a long drive for its only points of the second half, but Mountain Home put together back to back three and outs in the fourth quarter. On their final possession with just over one minute to play, the Pioneers threw an interception to seal the win.

Offensively for Mountain Home, McKay put on a show, helping the Bombers put up 546 yards of total offense. McKay was 14 of 27 through the air for 236 yards and carried the ball 26 times for 232 yards, giving him an incredible 468 yards of offense. He ran for two scores and hooked up with Logen Walker for two touchdowns.

Walker finished with seven catches for 160 yards. Gage Hershberger had 78 rushing yards and two TD runs.

The win gives the Bombers a 2-1 record, their best start since 2011 when they started 3-0. Batesville falls to 1-2.

Mountain Home will open 6A West Conference play next week at Lake Hamilton.
