The Mountain Home High School volleyball team continuted to roll Thursday night with a come-from-behind 3-2 win at home over Russellville. The Lady Bombers won by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 25-20 and 15-8 to improve their record to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the 5A West.

Kiah Beard had 30 assists and 11 digs for the Lady Bombers; Kendall Carter had 20 digs and 10 kills; Riley Schmitz collected 14 digs; Kylee Sabella had 18 digs, 11 kills and three blocks; Riley Straka finished with 16 digs; Georgia Burnham had five blocks; and Tatum Smith had 12 blocks, went 10 for 10 serving and had six digs.

Head coach Jill Daves was very proud of the way her team played. “We started off a little slow but pulled through the first set. The next two sets, we did not play with any intensity, and we were constantly on the defense. We had zero energy and nobody was talking. After losing the second set in a row, I explained to them that their problem was not a volleyball skill – it was their mentality. They were playing mentally weak. If they wanted to win, they were going to have to be on the attack and be the aggressor. I asked them if they were going to be mentally tough or lay down. Finally, a huge dig by Riley Straka changed the momentum of the game. Tatum Smith and Georgia Burnham had some big blocks, and we finally started playing as the aggressor and played smarter, not harder. The last two sets we never let up. We kept our foot on the throttle the entire time. We played to win instead of not to lose. I was so proud of this young team to fight and never give up. Their character is big and strong, but their heart massive and fierce.”

In the JV match, Mountain Home topped Russellville 25-21 and 25-9. Lauren Wehmeyer had seven kills, Emma Wilber finihsed with five kills, Cate Jackson had 13 digs, Emma Crabb collected 15 assists and five digs, and Katelyn Hill had seven digs.
