NEW MADRID, Mo. (AP) – New Madrid police are investigating a shooting death in the southeast Missouri town. Police say Donta Lamar Grissom was found dead in a New Madrid home early Thursday. A suspect, 31-year-old George William Dawson III, of New Madrid, was arrested at the home. He has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action and is being held in the Mississippi County Jail. KFVS reports Dawson told investigators he was taking medication for PTSD from his time serving in Afghanistan. Court documents say witnesses told investigators Grissom was not threatening Dawson before the shooting.
