The Missouri State Highway Patrol worked two one-vehicle accidents Saturday in Ozark County, and one ended with a fatality.

Eighty-three-year-old George Szabo of Gainesville was pronounced dead at the scene of the first accident, and 76-year-old Willa Luthi of Tecumseh was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with what were described as moderate injuries. Luthi was the driver of a vehicle traveling on U.S. Highway 160, and Szabo was his passenger. They were nearly a half mile west of Tecumseh when the vehicle ran of the right of the roadway, struck a sign and hit the ditch.

Szabo’s death is the 30th fatality reported by Troop G this year, compared to 34 at the same time in 2019. Luthi’s vehicle was totaled in the 1:01 p.m. accident.

Seventy-seven-year-old Ralph Brown of Gainesville was transported to Baxter Regional Medical Center after the second accident with moderate injuries. Brown was reportedly traveling on Missouri Route J, nearly 10 miles east of Gainesville, when his pickup truck ran off the right side of the roadway. He overcorrected, and the truck ran off the left side and struck a tree. The truck had extensive damage from the 5:50 p.m. accident.
