State tennis tournaments begin Monday

High school tennis is scheduled for Monday, as state tournaments get underway around Arkansas.

Mountain Home will have four doubles teams competing in the Class 5A State Tournament at Lakeside High School in Hot Springs. On the boys’ side, Jake McGehee and Clayton Jones will meet Aiden Smith and Taylor McCoy of Texarkana, and Jacob Czanstkowski and Dodge Harris will face Griffin Gulley and William Ivy of Lakeside. On the girls’ bracket, Macie Heide and Sarah Godfrey will take on Samantha Holt and Taylor Brossett of West Memphis, and Micaela McLean and Cambelle Lance will play Lauren Guadamuz and Peyton Mullins of Jonesboro.

Six area athletes will compete in the Class 3A State Tournament hosted by Episcopal Collegiate at Burns Park in North Little Rock. In boys’ action, Mountain View’s Will Fowlkes will be paired with John Canaan Taylor of Jessieville in the singles division, and Asher Fultz and Elijah Royce of Bergman will take part in the doubles bracket against Shawn Hudson Seegraves and Brandon Palmer of Piggott. Bergman will also be represented on the girls’ side, as Ruby Trammell meets Central Arkansas Christian’s Reagan Rabb in the singles bracket, and Maddi Holt and Kessa Willis will face Bismarck’s Audrey Kizziar and Alivia Gordon in doubles competition.

Burns Park will also be the site of the Class 4A State Tournament with Pulaski Academy designated as the host school, and Harrison will have a doubles team competing on the girls’ side. Elise Bell and Camryn Casey will take on Angela Coriarty and Paige Davis.
