MH cross country gets 2 team titles, 1 individual at Bomber Invitational

The Mountain Home cross country teams claimed two team titles and one individual championship Tuesday at the annual Bomber Invitational.

The Bombers placed six runners in the top 10 to edge past West Plains to win the high school boys’ race. The Bombers finished with 26 points, while the Zizzers had 32. Izard County was eighth, and Valley Springs finished ninth.

Whit Lawrence paced Mountain Home with a second-place finish, just two seconds behind the race winner, Riley Simpson of West Plains. Also for the Bombers, Andrew Westphal was third, Hendrix Hughes finished sixth, Tyler Firment was seventh, Ky Bickford finished eighth, and Bryson Hodges placed ninth.

In the high school girls’ race, Mountain Home’s Marcie Cudworth finished in first place, 22 and a half seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Also for the Lady Bombers, Rylee Patterson finished seventh, Jordan Ritenburg was 14th, Emily Payne finished 15th, and Whitney Wilber finished out the scoring in 19th place.

Rural Special’s Abbey Linville finished third overall. Izard County’s top runner was Ashlyn Billingsley in 16th place.

West Plains had six runners in the top 10 and won the high school girls’ team standing with a 22, while Mountain Home was second with a 47. Harrison finished fourth, and Izard County was sixth.

Mountain Home won the junior boys’ team title with a score of 74. Melbourne was second with an 89. Rural Special finished fourth, Mountain View was fifth, West Plains was seventh, and Harrison finished eighth.

The Junior Bombers were led by Jackson Free in fifth place, Ryan Amick finished tenth, William Hill was 11th, Gus Wilber was 21st, and Landon Horne finished the scoring in 29th place.

Melbourne’s Shawn Wortham won the race. Mountain View’s top runner was Jack Newton in sixth place. Rural Special was led by Cole Linville in 12th place.

In the junior girls’ race, Quitman won the team title. Mountain Home was third, West Plains fourth, Harrison finished fifth, Melbourne was eighth, Rural Special 10th, Bergman was 11th, and Izard County finished 12th.

Individually for Mountain Home, Bailey Ritenburg finished fourth, Jayla Yonkers was 12th, Laken Anderson was 28th, Naomi Wiggins 37th, and Camilla Johnson finished the scoring in 48th place.

Mountain View’s Ellie Akins finished second, Salem’s Macey Cooper was sixth, Emma Akins from Mountain View was seventh, and Melbourne’s Kaylin Caraway was eighth.
