After abruptly postponing its regularly scheduled monthly meeting last week, the Marion County Quorum Court’s October session is set for Tuesday evening at 6.

The agenda includes nine items of business for the court’s consideration.

The items include filling open positions in the prosecutor’s office, the assessor’s office and the transfer station.

Other items include ordinances to make additional adjustments to the budget and a reduction of inventory at the road department.

The court will also be asked to consider a resolution regarding hazardous pay for certain public safety employees exposed to COVID-19 in the performance of their duties under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The meeting will be held in the second floor courtroom of the Marion County Courthouse.

Last week’s meeting was postponed due to actions taken by newly-appointed Treasurer Carla Purdome. County Judge John Massey said in an email to county officials and the media the reason for the postponement was due to Purdome “giving a $2.25 raise.”

He said with Marion County’s financial situation with the over-projected revenue and all the errors made, until it is determined if an ordinance that froze hiring and raises is the law or not, quorum court will not be held.

Judge Massey told KTLO, Class Hits and The Boot news if county officials aren’t going to follow ordinances, there is no reason to hold quorum court meetings.

Tuesday evening’s meeting may be viewed through the Marion County AR Government Youtube channel via livestreaming by clicking here.
