MHHS volleyball team falls to Greenbrier; Cotter advances to district final

Tuesday was a rough night at home for the Mountain Home High School volleyball team. The Lady Bombers fell in four sets, after Greenbrier posted scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-20 and 25-18. Riley Schmitz led Mountain Home with 18 digs; Kiah Beard had 10 digs and 36 assists; Kendall Carter provided 15 digs, seven kills and two blocks; Georgia Burnham ended up with 11 kills, five digs and two blocks; Kylee Sabella finished with 13 digs, 10 kills and a block; and Riley Straka added 11 digs.

Mountain Home fared better in the junior varsity match beating Greenbrier in straight sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-21. The JV Lady Bombers were led by Katelyn Hill with 15 digs and seven kills; Lauren Wehmeyer provided 12 digs and four kills; Cate Jackson had 10 digs; Carson Schmitz ended up with three aces, six digs and 11 assists; and Emma Wilber chipped in three kills and four blocks.

Mountain Home will finish the regular season hosting Alma for Senior Night.

Cotter is one win away from taking the title of the 2A-North District Tournament. The Lady Warriors picked up a straight set victory in the semifinals after topping Salem 25-14, 25-9 and 25-14.

Quitman will be Cotter’s opponent in the championship match on Thursday after defeating Flippin by scores of 25-23, 11-25, 25-4 and 25-13.

The Lady Bobcats will host Salem on Thursday in the third-place match.

Valley Springs went on the road and won its semifinal match in the 3A-Northwest District Tournament. The Lady Tigers took the victory in four sets, as they beat Rose Bud 18-25, 26-24, 27-25 and 25-23. Valley Springs will head to Searcy on Thursday to face Harding Academy for the title.
