Viola High School basketball teams sweep Rural Special; Mammoth Spring takes 2 of 3 at Rose Bud

The Viola High School basketball teams were able to sweep Rural Special on Friday.
The girls’ game ended with the Lady Longhorns beating the Lady Rebels 56-44. Lindsey Browning led Viola with 18 points, A.J. McCandlis scored 14, and Sami McCandlis added 12. The Lady Longhorns improve to 6-0 on the season and 1-0 in the 1A-2.
Viola followed with a dominating win in the boys’ contest. The Longhorns defeated Rural Special by a final of 86-8.

Mammoth Spring picked up two wins with the Bears at Rose Bud for three games.
The senior boys’ game ended with the Bears topping the Ramblers 59-48. Mammoth Spring was led by Cole Young with 19 points, Aidan Burns had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Logan Doss chipped in 13 points and grabbed 14 boards.
It was a different result in the senior girls’ contest, as Mammoth Spring fell to Rose Bud 48-38. Megyn Upton was the Lady Bears’ top scorer with 13 points, and Shelby VanGinhoven finished with 12.
The evening began with Mammoth Spring’s junior girls invoking the mercy rule. The Junior Lady Bears routed Rose Bud 43-6.

Lead Hill swept its high school games at home over Eureka Springs. The Tigers took the boys’ game over the Highlanders 52-36. Lead Hill’s girls put the mercy rule in effect, as they pounded Eureka Springs 45-12.

The Valley Springs boys had a tough night on the road. In a battle between Tigers, Valley Springs lost to Pangburn 68-62.

Jasper won two of three at home over Ozark Catholic. The Lady Pirates dominated the senior girls’ game with a 60-22 decision. Jasper’s senior boys did not fare as well, as they fell to the Griffins 55-49. The Jasper junior boys began the night by beating Ozark Catholic 44-35.
