Prescribed burns are being conducted around the Twin Lakes throughout the remainder of the year. Personnel from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mountain Home Project Office and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will conduct the burns when weather conditions are favorable.

Locations around Norfork Lake include Gamaliel Park, Bidwell Point Park, the Norfork Campground and Woods Point Access. Lakeview Park is the only location at Bull Shoals Lake, and its launch ramp will be temporarily closed on the day of the burn.

According to the Corps, periodic burning improves stand health and enhances wildlife value. It also reduces wildfire fuel loads by removing debris including leaf litter, treetops and limbs. In addition, prescribed burns improve habitats for wildlife by promoting vigorous growth of non-woody vegetation and grasses important to wildlife for food and protective cover.

For more information, contact the Mountain Home Project Office at 870-425-2700, extension 1433, weekdays between 8 and 4:30, excluding federal holidays.
