The Mountain Home Police Department and the Arkansas State Police are reminding motorists to “Click It or Ticket” for the Thanksgiving holiday. Through Nov. 29, both departments will join other law enforcement agencies across the country to team up with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to work toward reducing the number of fatalities occurring when vehicle passengers fail to buckle their seatbelts.

A focus of this year’s campaign will be nighttime enforcement. In 2018, 9,778 unbuckled passenger vehicle occupants were killed in crashes in the United States, and 56% occupants killed at night were not wearing their seatbelts.

Participating law enforcement will be taking a no-excuse approach to motorists without a seat belt on and will be writing citations. In Mountain Home, the law requires all front seat passengers and children to be buckled up.
