The outlet obtained a copy of Van Halen’s death certificate and found that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer’s ashes were given to his son, Wolfgang Van Halen.

Van Halen had been battling cancer when he died, but according to the certificate, the immediate cause of death was listed as a stroke.

Sources have since told the outlet that the guitar legend expressed that he wanted his ashes spread off the coast of Malibu, California.  It is unknown whether or not his son has already obliged his father’s final command.

Van Halen was 65 when he passed October 6.  He is survived by Wolfgang and his wife, Janie. Eddie previously was married to actress Valerie Bertinelli, who is Wolfgang’s mom.
