Mailboat RecordsSammy Hagar and his band The Circle have announced plans to kick off 2021 by releasing an album called Lockdown 2020 on January 8 featuring the performances from the rockers’ series of “Lockdown Sessions” that have been posting on Hagar’s official YouTube channel since this past March.

The 11-track album features audio of 10 previously released video performances posted by Hagar and The Circle, plus a new cover of David Bowie‘s classic 1977 song “Heroes” that’s available now as an advance digital single and via streaming services.

All proceeds raised by the track, which you also can check out at Sammy’s YouTube channel, will be donated to food banks across the U.S. In addition, fans who pre-order the Lockdown 2020 album will receive an instant free download of the “Heroes” cover.

Hagar and The Circle — bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham and guitarist Vic Johnson — kicked off the “Lockdown Sessions” in March with a video performance of a new original song called “Funky Feng Shui” that began as a jam that Sammy and the band would play backstage to warm up before shows.

As previously reported, each installment of the “Lockdown Sessions” was created by combining video clips of the band members playing their parts separately at their respective homes or rehearsal spaces.

Among the other songs featured on Lockdown 2020 are renditions of tunes by The Who, Bob Marley, AC/DC, Buffalo Springfield, Little Richard, Van Halen and Sammy’s solo group The Wabos.

Notes Hagar, “No one expected this locked down thing to last as long as it did but somehow its inspired us to create 11 songs and we’ve had a blast doing it.”
