Mountain Home High School economics teacher Johnny Caststeel has been named a Polly M. Jackson Master Economics Teacher (MET) for Economics Arkansas. Caststeel was presented with a certificate in recognition of the honor by District Superintendent Dr. Jake Long on Thursday.
The MET program was established by Polly Jackson in 1992 with 16 inaugural METs from varying grade levels and curricular backgrounds. The program was designed to provide staff development opportunities to fulfill Economics Arkansas’s need for dynamic, enthusiastic economic educators to staff professional development opportunities across Arkansas.
According to a letter from Kathleen Lawson, the executive director of Economics Arkansas, a nonprofit, nonpartisan charitable organization providing economic training to Arkansas teachers, Caststeel received the recognition due to his innovative teaching methods. “Mr. Caststeel has distinguished himself as a leader and advocate for economic education and has demonstrated those traits in his classroom by infusing economic opportunities in innovative ways,” she says. “His students, parents, colleagues, community, and Economics Arkansas, have benefited from Johnny’s many endeavors.”
