At its January meeting, the Cotter City Council will continue consideration of a one-percent sales and use tax initiative for sewer improvements.
At its December meeting, an ordinance was placed on its first reading regarding the sales tax initiative.
Mayor McGeorge “Mac” Caradine tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news, the initiative is an effort to continue an existing tax.
Mayor Caradine says, the ordinance will move to its second reading at the council’s next meeting.
Caradine says there are a number of steps required for the extension of the sales and use tax.
Caradine says the sales tax extension is being considered instead of a rate increase.
The Cotter mayor says a public information meeting is planned in March.
