The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Mountain Home Project Office is offering fish cover permits to area residents beginning Tuesday at 9 a.m. A limit of 50 permits will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fish cover permits allow individuals to cut up to six cedar trees from designated areas of the shoreline. The trees must be no greater than 6 inches in diameter at the stump. Dead trees and branches may also be picked up along the shore and sunk into the lake for fish habitat.

Permits will only be issued by phone due to COVID-19 restrictions. To reserve a permit, call 501-340-1444. If there’s no answer, leave a message, and the call will be returned in the order it was received.
