Friday’s local basketball results include the Arkansas Sports Media’s top-ranked girls’ team in Class 1A suffering its first conference loss. Viola ended up falling to Rural Special 53-50.
Viola fared better on the boys’ side, as they defeated Rural Special 64-21. The Longhorns improve to 22-2 on the year.
Ozark Mountain’s boys had a good night at North Arkansas College in Harrison. The Bears topped Jasper by a final of 61-53.
The Gainesville boys had a short but successful road trip. The Bulldogs ended up beating Dora 72-27.
Calico Rock’s high school teams went to Greers Ferry and were swept by West Side. The Pirates lost the boys’ game to the Eagles 77-46. Calico Rock’s girls did not fare any better, as they fell to West Side 60-30.
The Izard County High School teams picked up a sweep at Timbo.
The Cougars beat the Tigers 79-46 in the boys’ game. Caleb Faulkner led Izard County with 25 points, and Coby Everett added 15. The Cougars improve to 15-4 on the year and 7-2 in the 1A-2.
Izard County’s girls also defeated Timbo 45-15. The Lady Cougars were led by Cassidy Coleman with 16 points, and Emily Jackson chipped in 13.
Mammoth Spring’s boys had a rough night, as they fell to Marked Tree 75-67. Aidan Burns was the Bears’ top scorer with 28 points, Cole Young scored 18, and Zack Flynn finished with 12. Mammoth Spring’s record is now 15-7.
The Bergman boys had a dominating win beating up on West Fork 81-56. Walker Patton paced the Panthers with 30 points, Asher Fults ended up with 19, and Anthony Hodge had 11. Bergman improves to 19-4 on the season and 5-0 in 3A-1.
