Saturday basketball schedule includes district tournament play

Basketball makes up the local Saturday schedule.

Both championship games of the 1A-2 Junior District Tournament will pair Norfork with Izard County. The boys’ game tips off at 1 p.m. at the Bobby D. Hulse Gymnasium in Norfork, and the girls’ contest starts at 3 at the Cougar Den in Brockwell.

Mammoth Spring’s boys will compete in the semifinals of the 1A-3 Junior District Tournament. The Junior Bears will travel to Maynard for a 1 p.m. start.

Both of Melbourne’s teams will compete for the championship of the 2A-2 Junior District Tournament. The Junior Bearkatz will host the boys’ game at noon, and the girls will head to Newark to face Cedar Ridge at 3.

Bergman will entertain Valley Springs for the girls’ final of the 3A-1 Junior District Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for noon.

Omaha’s boys will host Kingston for the title of the 1A-1 East Junior District Tournament. Gametime is set for 2 p.m.

On the high school level, a few area teams will play their openers in the 1A-2 District Tournament. On the boys’ side, Norfork makes the trip to Calico Rock for a 5:30 matchup, Timbo plays at Shirley at 1, and Rural Special will be a Concord for a 1 p.m. game. On the girls’ bracket, Calico Rock heads to Concord for a 1 p.m. start, and Izard County hosts Timbo at 11 a.m. in the fine arts gym.

Both of Omaha’s high school teams will host Mount Judea in the elementary gym for the opener of the 1A-1 East District Tournament. The girls’ game tips off at 9 a.m. followed by the boys’ contest.
