Stone County authorities have arrested a Mountain View man after a domestic assault incident that led to the victim being transported by ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

According to the probable cause affidavit, 44-year-old Gary Joe Mackenzie is facing felony counts of domestic battery and terroristic threatening, as well as a misdemeanor of interference with emergency communication. His bond was set at $50,000.

His arrest and charges follow law enforcement responding to a 911 call Feb. 17 from a residence along Herpel Road in Mountain View. The caller was a neighbor of the victim who had arrived at the home bleeding, saying Mackenzie had assaulted her.

At the Stone County Medical Center, the victim told a sheriff’s deputy the assault followed Mackenzie allegedly accusing her of stealing his marijuana and cheating on him.

She saId Mackenzie came over next to her, grabbed a coffee table and threw it. She then grabbed her dog and went to a vehicle, locking herself inside.

When Mackenzie came to the vehicle and apologized, the woman returned to the residence.

She said once inside, Mackenzie again accused her of stealing his marijuana and cheating on him. As she moved her chair back, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and told her today was the day she was going to die, as he beat her in the head with his fist.

She said she was trying to get away from Mackenzie when he struck her with a metal chair.

The woman saId she asked to go to the bathroom. But when she got by the bed, she saw a cellphone. At this point, she said she asked to sit on the bed and told Mackenzie she would tell him the truth. When she sat down, she tried to reach the cellphone. But, Mackenzie saw what she was trying to do and took the cellphone.

He then reportedly began hitting her in the head with his fist. The woman was able to run to the bathroom and lock herself inside.

The victim said as Mackenzie beat on the door, she thought if he is successful in getting into the bathroom, “I am dead.”

The woman said she escaped through a window, fell to the ground and went to a neighbor’s house, where the call was placed to 911.

The woman sustained a fracture to her shoulder/arm and cuts to her hands. She also had multiple bumps on her head.

The victim said in 2020, Mackenzie allegedly struck her in the head with a leveler. When they went to the hospital for treatment, she said “he made her tell the staff that she hit her head on something.”
