Another local public school district has decided to make a switch to a four-day week of classes. The Gainesville R-V School District will put the change in effect beginning in the 2021-2022 school year.
Gainesville Superintendent Justin Gilmore says there are a number of reasons for joining Norfork, Ozark Mountain, Bakersfield, Lutie and Viola in being among the school districts implementing a four-day week, and among those are teacher retention and hiring.

The change is also expected to affect the district’s bottom line in a positive manner. Gilmore says in area, Gainesville has a large school district for its buses to run their routes, and a four-day week will save the district some costs.
Gilmore says the feedback he has received from the public on making the switch has been mainly positive.

When the next school year begins in August, Gainesville will have classes Monday through Thursday and take Friday off. That’s different from most school districts with a four-day week that implemented Monday as the day off. Gilmore says Gainesville had been implementing strictly virtual classes on Friday this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so in part, it made more sense to continue with on-campus classes Monday through Thursday.
