A Stone County man, 29-year-old Richie L. McCarroll of Marcella near Mountain View, has been sentenced to seven years in the Arkansas Department of Correction on felony drug charges.

The charges are in connection with an incident in March 2020 when McCarroll and a female were discovered living in the home of a woman who reportedly had memory issues. Law enforcement responded to a call from the homeowner reporting an unknown man was inside her residence along Slatey Point Loop.

While law enforcement was on the scene, McCarroll’s female companion arrived and said the two had been living at the residence.

McCarroll was an active parolee at the time, with a search waiver on file. A check with his parole officer revealed McCarroll was not supposed to be living at the Slatey Point Loop address.

McCarroll allegedly admitted to recent methamphetamine use. His parole officer instructed deputies to take the Stone County man into custody for drug use.

Deputies searched the area around McCarroll and located a pouch containing drug paraphernalia and a white crystalline substance. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

McCarroll was among 18 people taken into custody in 2017 following a six-month-long investigation leading to a warrant sweep by the Stone County Sheriff’s Department, the 16th Judicial District Drug Task Force and the Mountain View Police Department. Online court documents indicate he was also arrested on drug charges in 2018
