Meeting in a special session Thursday evening, the Cotter School Board unanimously approved a recommendation to continue the mask requirement for all staff members and students in grades five-12.

The move follows Gov. Asa Hutchinson dropping the state’s mask mandate on Tuesday. At the time of his announcement, the governor said school districts could continue requiring teachers and students to wear masks.

In other action, Superintendent Vanessa Thomas Jones and board members reviewed and discussed positive case data for the district and community, district vaccination numbers, input from staff members, upcoming ACT testing windows, upcoming events such as prom and graduation and current End of the Year COVID-19 Guidance for Schools from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
