Mountain Home Mayor Hillrey Adams has announced that acting Chief of Police Eddie Griffin has been selected as the city’s new top cop.

Adams made the announcement Wednesday afternoon at the Mountain Home Police Department in front of an assembly of a dozen Mountain Home police officers, who cheered and applauded when Griffin was named as the new chief of police.

Griffin has 24 years of experience with the Mountain Home Police Department. He joined the force as patrolman and spent three years with that department before joining the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) for the next 20 years. He became the assistant chief in July 2020 and has served as the interim police chief since Carry Manuel retired last fall.

Griffin said he didn’t know he had won the job until he heard his name announced by the mayor Wednesday afternoon.

Adams said the city received 11 applications for its chief of police position, including several from out of state.

That initial applicant pool was narrowed down to four finalists, who were then interviewed by the mayor.

“I think any of those four would have done a fantastic job,” Adams said. “But what I kept saying was why do we need to go outside when we’ve got a guy right here.”
