Tuesday results include MH sweeping softball doubleheader over Van Buren

The Mountain Home High School softball team had a good night Tuesday at McClain Park as they swept a doubleheader over Van Buren.
Mattie Belk drove in Marcie Cudworth from third base on suicide squeeze in the final inning to push the Lady Bombers past the Lady Pointers 1-0 in the first game. Mallory Pierski, Cudworth and Gracie Uchtman each went two-for-three. Lauren Loving was the winning pitcher after striking out nine batters and giving up three hits.
The second game was more lopsided with Mountain Home beating Van Buren 9-2. Emma Crabb was credited with the win by recording eight strikeouts and allowing three hits. Cudworth was three-for-four with an RBI, Tori Robb went two-for-four and drove in three runs, Emily Payne was two-for-four with an RBI coming on a solo home run, Georgia Burnham went two-for-four with an RBI, and Uchtman was two-for-four.
The Lady Bombers improve to 11-4 on the season and 6-2 in the 5A-West, and they’ll begin tournament play Friday in Benton.

Elsewhere, Cotter came up short in a high-scoring game as they were edged out by Mammoth Spring 12-11. The Lady Bears are now 9-3 on the year, and they’ll host Dora on Thursday.

Viola had a rough day in front of the home crowd. The Lady Longhorns fell to Greers Ferry West Side 9-2.

Salem was able to pick up another conference win on the home field. The Lady Greyhounds defeated Melbourne 8-3.

It was a tough road trip for Mountain View. In a battle between Lady Yellowjackets, Mountain View lost to Clinton 18-3.

Mountain Home’s baseball team was not able to fare as well as their softball counterparts as they were swept at home by Van Buren. The Bombers lost the first game 1-0, and the Pointers also took the second game 8-1.

Flippin was able to pick up a 6-4 win over Yellville-Summit. Brycen Benedict picked up the win by pitching five innings and striking out 10 batters, and Philip Pasthings pitched the final two innings to get the save. Dale Smyser led the Bobcat offense with a home run, a double and five RBIs. Flippin is 9-5 overall and 5-0 in the 2A-1.

Gainesville won a high-scoring game at home. The Bulldogs got past Thayer by a final of 15-10.

Salem grabbed another conference win with a 5-1 decision over Midland. Trevor Leisenring was the winning pitcher with five innings, eight strikeouts, two hits and no earned runs. Matt Guffey closed the game by pitching the final two innings, recording five strikeouts and giving up no hits and no runs. The Greyhounds’ offense was led by Dakota Jackson with three hits and three RBIs, and Leisenring added a pair of singles. Salem improves to 9-5 onthe season and 4-1 in the league.

Mammoth Spring had a dominating win at home as they pounded Armorel 10-1. The Bears are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the 1A-3, and they’ll head to Thayer on Friday.

Mountain View ended up falling to another group of Yellowjackets. Mountain View lost at Clinton by a score of 18-3.
