Van Matre senior center to reopen

The Van Matre Senior Center in Mountain Home will re-open to public on Monday, the center has announced. The facility closed last spring due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pivoted to serving patrons a drive-through lunch meal.

The senior center will continue offering a curbside lunch, with new hours being 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

The facility will open its doors at 10:50 a.m. and offer a congregate lunch inside from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. There will be no communal coffee pots or drink dispensers. Patrons are encouraged to bring their own water bottles.

Card games will be available in the dining room froom 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., and the center’s pool room and gym may be also be used between 1:30 and 3. No health and wellness programs or excercise programs will be offered at this time, the senior center said.

The congregate meal will have limited seating in the dining room and the stage room. Tables and chairs cannot be moved for meals or table games, the center said.

Pool room occupancy is eight people and will be on a one-game rotation. Gym room occupancy is two people and will be on a half-hour rotation. Meeting room occupancy is two people and will be on a half-hour rotation. The front lobby is limited to three people and will be on a half-hour rotation.

Social distancing should be followed as much as possible and masks should be worn unless a patron is eating or excercising, the senior center said.
