A Mountain Home woman facing a murder charge in Baxter County now faces a charge of first-degree sexual assault in Marion County.

Online court records indicate 21-year-old Savannah Nicole Wren was arrested Tuesday for allegedly having sex with a high school student around May 2019. Wren also faces a second-degree murder charge for allegedly shooting and killing 19-year-old Chaseton Lewter on Nov. 24, 2020.

According to the probable cause warrant in the sexual assault case, the Flippin Police Department received reports from the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division indicating a juvenile had been interviewed at Grandma’s House Child Advocacy Center on Nov. 13, 2020. The juvenile stated in the fall of 2018, Wren was his substitute teacher in at least two of his classes at Flippin High School. The student reportedly told investigators around the time of the school’s 2019 spring break, he smoked marijuana with Wren and had sexual intercourse with her on three separate occasions at her residence in Flippin.

The probable cause warrant also indicates Wren was interviewed on Nov. 20, 2020, by Senior Special Agent Becky Vacco. Wren reportedly told Vacco she was unemployed, but that her last job had been serving as a substitute teacher for schools in Baxter and Marion counties.

Wren reportedly told Vacco the juvenile was a neighbor of hers when she lived in Flippin, but she did not know if or when she was a substitute for any of his classes. Wren was reportedly then asked if she was the juvenile’s substitute during the time Wren and the student were allegedly having sex. Wren then reportedly asked if she could come back with an attorney, and the interview ended.

Wren is accused of shooting Chaseton Lewter at a Mountain Home apartment complex around 2:45 a.m. on Nov. 24, 2020. Lewter was transported to Little Rock for medical attention, but later died from his injuries. She was initially charged with criminal attempt to commit second-degree murder, but the charges were updated to second-degree murder following Lewter’s death.
