The names ‘Liam’ and ‘Olivia’ were the most-used baby names in Arkansas for 2020, the Social Security Administration says.

The most popular boys’ names for 2020 in Arkansas were Liam, William, Elijah, Noah and Oliver. The most popular girls’ names in the state last year were Olivia, Emma, Amelia, Harper and Ava.

Social Security began compiling its annual baby name list in 1997, with names dating back to 1880. When a baby is born, parents supply the name of the newborn to the agency when applying for the child’s Social Security card, thus making Social Security a reliable source for the nation’s most popular baby names.

‘Liam’ and ‘Olivia’ also topped the national list of 2020’s most popular names.

Nationally, the most popular boys’ names for 2020 were Liam, Noah, Oliver, Elijah, William, James, Benjamin, Lucas, Henry and Alexander. The most popular girls’ names for 2020 were Olivia, Emma, Ava, Charlotte, Sophia, Amelia, Isabella, Mia, Evelyn and Harper.

Social Security says it appears parents chose to stick with the familiar during an unprecedented time, with the top three names for both girls — Olivia, Emma, and Ava — and boys — Liam, Noah, and Oliver — remaining the same for the second year in a row. In fact, out of both Top 10 lists combined, only two names changed, with the traditional names Henry and Alexander edging out Mason and Ethan. The name Henry has been steadily rising in popularity, last appearing in the Top 10 over a century ago, in 1910.
