Area unemployment numbers see big improvements in latest reports

Unemployment numbers in the Twin Lakes Area are much improved in the latest reports from the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services and the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. The numbers, which are for the month of March, show every county in the area had sizable drops in the number of unemployed residents.

In Baxter County, the unemployment rate dropped from 5.1% to 4.4%. There were 736 unemployed out of a workforce of 16,554. Baxter County has the 21st lowest rate out of the state’s 75 counties.

Marion County saw unemployment improve from 6.3% to 5.4% which is tied for 47th in Arkansas. With a labor force of 6,067, 330 were unemployed.

In Fulton County, the rate fell from 5.5% to 4.6% in March, which ties them for 26th lowest in the state. Out of a workforce of 4,929, 225 were out of work.

Izard County’s unemployment improved from 7.1% to 6% which ties them for 59th in Arkansas. There were 268 unemployed from a labor force of 4,461.

Stone County has the highest unemployment rate in north central Arkansas at 6.2%, which is down considerably from February’s 7.5%. With a workforce of 4,595, there were 287 unemployed which puts Stone County tied for 64th in the state.

Searcy County county’s rate fell to 5% from 5.9% which ranks them tied for 38th. There were 142 out of work from a workforce of 2,831.

Boone County is tied for the sixth lowest rate in Arkansas at 3.8%, down from 4.3% in February. There were 591 unemployed out of a workforce of 15,752.

Newton County is tied for the third lowest in the state, dropping from 4.6% to 3.7%. Out of a workforce of 3,257, 122 were out of work.

The state unemployment rate in Arkansas in March was 4.4%, down from 4.5% in February.

Across southern Missouri, Ozark County saw a big decrease from 7.3% to 5.7% in March. There were 196 out of work from a workforce of 3,435.

Douglas County went from 5.3 to 4.7%. Out of a workforce of 5,179, 245 were unemployed.

In Howell County, the unemployment rate fell from 5.8% to 5%. Data shows 805 out of work from a labor force of 16,094.

Taney County saw a huge improvement in March, going from 14% to 9.1%. There were 2,256 unemployed out of a work force of 24,904.

Missouri’s unemployment rate fell in March to 4.4% from 5.2% the previous month.
