Free Fishing Weekend in Arkansas, activities planned at Bull Shoals-White River State Park

It is Free Fishing Weekend in Arkansas, meaning Arkansans and nonresidents may fish without a fishing license or trout permit. All other regulations, such as daily limits and size restrictions on certain bodies of water, still apply during the weekend.

At the Bull Shoals-White River State Park, there will be a free class on the basics of trout fishing Friday morning from 9-9:30 a.m. Attendees can learn how to trout fish on the White River, the various species of trout and the variety of baits that can be used. Attendees should meet at the park’s trout dock.

Also on Friday, the park will present “Game Scene Investigation” from 3-:30 p.m. at the trout dock amphitheater. An activity in the vein of the CSI tv shows, “GSI participants will use their tracking and investigative skills to determine what happened. Field guides and a park interpreter will be on hand to help with the activity, which is free.

On Saturday, the program “Silent Invaders” will be presented from 1-1:30 p.m. at the park’s campground amphitheater. Natural resources at the park are threatened by silent invaders, and attendees can learn about what could potential impact the park and what can be done to help protect it. That program is also free.
