The Mountain Home Fire Department recently added a new tanker truck to its fleet of emergency vehicles.

The 2021 tanker replaces the 1985 tanker that was previously used by the department.

The new truck was purchased with money from the Apparatus Fund, with half of the money coming from the City of Mountain Home and the other half coming from the Mountain Home Rural Fire Protection District.

The new tanker has a Freightliner chassis and holds 2,000 gallons of water. That is 500 gallons more than the 1985 tanker it replaced. The new truck also has an automatic transmission while the previous tanker had a standard transmission.

Mountain Home Fire Chief Kris Quick says the new tanker’s extra capacity will help in fighting fires and the vehicle’s automatic transmission will make it easier to drive.

The 2021 tanker was purchased from Midwest Fire Apparatus in Luverne, Minn. Battalion chief David Green and Captain Pat Ryan traveled to Minnesota to take delivery of the tanker at Midwest Fire Apparatus’ headquarters.

The 1985 tanker will be sold to the Mountain Home Street Department.
