A Gassville man and a Mountain Home woman were arrested by sheriff’s deputies Wednesday evening for allegedly stealing an SUV.

The Sheriff’s Office received a complaint call Wednesday night at 11:26 p.m. that Lewis had reportedly stolen a Chevrolet Suburban and then wrecked the vehicle on County Road 8 and walked away. Deputies responded to the scene and found Lewis a short time later.

A subsequent investigation found that Lewis had allegedly used a tow truck belonging to himself to remove a Suburban from a mobile home park on Highway 201 South. The son of the Suburban’s owner got behind Lewis on County Road 8, and Lewis reportedly pulled his tow truck off to the side of the road. When Lewis was confronted about allegedly stealing the SUV, he reportedly drove off and fled before flipping the tow truck and the Suburban on a curve on County Road 8.

Eads reportedly accompanied Lewis in the tow truck. Both allegedly fled the scene following the wreck, but were detained by the caller until deputies arrived a short time later. The SUV’s owner later arrived on the scene and confirmed that the Suburban was his vehicle.

Lewis sustained minor injuries in the crash and was treated at Baxter Regional Medical Center. In addition to the felony theft of property charge he also faces the misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, no liability insurance, hauling an unsafe load and failing to transfer a vehicle registration.
