June’s record sales

Figures released by the state Department of Finance and Administration

(DFA) show Arkansans spent $26.5 million on medical marijuana in the past

month, a figure that was down about 24 percent compared to last month’s

sales.

Since the state’s first dispensary opened in mid-2019, Arkansas have spent

$365 million to purchase 54,009 pounds of medical marijuana.

From mid-June to mid-July, Arkansans spent $26.5 million to purchase 3,924

pounds of cannabis. That is a decrease of $8.5 million in monthly sales

compared to sales numbers reported in mid-June, when Arkansans spent $35

million to purchase 4,799 pounds of medical marijuana.

Medical marijuana purchases from mid-May to mid-June are believed to be the

best 30-day period on record for the state, somewhat skewing a direct

month-to-month analysis of sales. The DFA’s mid-May report indicated

Arkansans had spent $26.9 million on medical cannabis in the past 30 days,

a figure more in line with mid-July’s report of $26.5 million in sales.

Mid-April’s sales report indicated $18.5 million in sales from mid-March

until that point.

There are currently 36 dispensaries in operation throughout Arkansas, with

two more working toward opening their doors. Dispensaries yet to open

include 3J Investments in Lamar and Missco Cannabis in Jonesboro.

The DFA reports there are now 13 dispensaries that have sold at least 2,000

pounds of cannabis.

Locally, Plant Family Therapeutics in Mountain Home sold 331.99 pounds of

marijuana from mid-June to mid-July and has totaled sales of 3,004.79

pounds since opening in February, 2020. Fiddler’s Green in Mountain view

sold 143.87 pounds from mid-June to mid-July and has sold 2,397.36 pounds

since opening in July, 2019. Spring River Dispensary in Hardy sold 104.45

pounds from mid-June to mid-July, and has sold a total of 358 pounds since

opening in January.

The Arkansas Department of Health reports 78,754 active medical marijuana

patient cards. That is an increase of 1,081 cardholders from the numbers

reported at this time last month.
