Authorities in Izard County are investigating a fatal plane crash that occurred Monday morning shortly after 11 a.m.
Preliminary information for the Izard County Sheriff’s Office says the plane went down south of the Melbourne Airport, with the Spring River Chronicle reporting the crash is near Melbourne High School.
Authorities say deputies and Melbourne Fire Department personnel arrived to find a single-engine plane engulfed in flames, with one occupant who was deceased. Investigators are still working on the identification and the NTSB has been notified.
