Zyler Gabriellee Palmere

An 18-year-old Clarkridge teen is being held in the Marion County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond following a drive-by shooting at a residence in Flippin.

Zyler Gabriellee Palmere faces three counts of unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and theft by receiving, both Class B felonies, along with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), a Class D felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Flippin Police Chief Henry Campfield, Palmere was arrested on Aug. 3 after the shooting incident the previous night.

Authorities were dispatched to a residence on South Street in Flippin at shortly after 11 p.m. and found three people at the residence, with each reporting they were in the residence when the shots were fired.

Chief Campfield found a small hole in a living room window and two bullet holes in a bedroom window. He later located one bullet lodged in the living room window frame. One of the occupants provided a smashed bullet, which came through a bedroom window, passed through a wall and struck a metal shower curtain rod and landed in the occupants hair. By examining the bullet holes and bullets, it was determined the rounds came from a .22 caliber firearm.

One of the occupants ran outside after the first shot and observed a white SUV driving away, while another occupant said he was having “ongoing problems with the suspect over an ex-girlfriend.”

The next day, authorities processed the scene for the second time and the complainant provided photos that “were taken at the EZ Mart in Flippin after the incident.” The photos showed an SUV allegedly driven by Palmere and showed a box of .22 caliber sells on the dashboard. Also provided was a photo of the vehicle’s license plate.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen in Gainesville, with Palmere listed as a suspect in the theft. Chief Campfield located a vehicle matching the description of the stolen SUV parked at a business in Gassville later that afternoon. The chief pulled in behind the vehicle and identified Palmere as the person exiting the SUV and placed him in custody.

David G. Brace

A second teen, 18-year-old David G. Brace of Yellville, was located in the passenger seat and taken into custody. Baxter County authorities arrived on the scene and confirmed the SUV as the stolen vehicle. Both Palmere and Brace were taken to the Marion County Detention Center, where authorities located a small plastic baggy containing a crystalline substance in Palmere’s pocket. The substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

During and interview with investigators, both teens reported they had driven down South Street, with Palmere “telling Brace to lean back” so he could fire shots out the window. The duo then began driving around on back roads and ended up many miles from Flippin and had to use GPS to find their way back to town.

Both men reported the vehicle ran out of gas on their way to back to town, forcing them to pull over at the overlook on U.S. Highway 62. Brace claimed he went to sleep at that point and when he awakened, the vehicle was parked at Hickey Park in Flippin. Palmere allegedly told Brace he had gotten robbed of the firearm and some drugs.

Palmere reportedly told authorities that the pair were stranded at the overlook for a couple of hours after running out of gas, but someone stopped and offered to go get gas for them. Palmere said when the “good Samaritans” returned and provided the gas, a conversation came up about the gun and he asked if they were interesting in buying it. The person asked to look at the weapon and when it was handed over, Palmere says the person demanded his “dope” and left the area with the gun and drugs.

Under questioning, Palmere allegedly admitted he had stolen a pistol from a pawn shop in Mountain Home several days earlier. Brace allegedly drove Palmere to Gainesville, where he obtained the SUV and the pair began to go backroading. Palmere allegedly says he decided to drive by the residence in Flippin, drove past it, turned around and drove by once more and fired “two or three shots” at the home. He then said they continued backroading and he “blacked out.”

For his role in the events, Brace is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on misdemeanor theft of property charges, two counts of failure to appear and two counts of nonpayment of fines. His bond is set at $3,440, according to electronic jail records.
