MHHS tennis fares well at opening day of conference tournament

The Mountain Home High School tennis teams began play in the 5A West Conference Tournament at Russellville Monday with two singles players and two doubles teams advancing to the second day.

Macie Heide, the number one seed in girls’ singles, won both of her matches in dominating fashion to move on. She defeated both opponents 6-0, 6-0.

The top seeded doubles team of Macaela McLean and Cambelle Lance were also dominate, winning their first match 6-0, 6-0 and then taking their second match 6-1, 6-0.

In boys’ action, Dodge Harris, seeded fourth in singles, easily won his matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2.

The top seeded boys’ doubles team of Alex Arp and Jacob Czantskowski also cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win in their opener and then won their second match 6-0, 6-2.

Head coach Noah Chagnon says “All of our teams represented Mountain Home well on day one. Half of our athletes who weren’t able to punch their ticket to state, are freshmen and a great assets to our future! Day 2 will be more competitive and we have to stay mentally strong to make sure we’re putting ourselves in the best position to win our conference tournament and improve our seeding going into state”.
