A Norfork area man has been arrested, after he allegedly stole nearly $1,500 worth of electricity over a seven-month period. Twenty-eight-year-old Avery Robert Lee is charged with damaging wires and other fixtures of telephone, cable and electric power companies, a Class D felony.

According to the probable cause statement from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, an employee of North Arkansas Electric Cooperative went to the residence on Jordan Road in April 2020 and discovered the occupants of the house were stealing electricity. The meter base had been jumpered using electrical wire wrapped in duct tape. Lee was reportedly at the residence when the worker was there.

The service had been cut off to the house seven months prior in September 2019. The account had been in Lee’s father’s name.

It’s estimated the power stolen had a value of $1,452, plus a tampering charge of $125, which brought the total amount to $1,577.
