MHHS swept by Greenwood to start home stand

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams’ first home outing in a week-and-a-half was a rough one, as they were swept by Greenwood.

The girls’ game ended with the Lady Bombers falling to the Lady Bulldogs 69-45. Mountain Home had one lead at 3-2, but Greenwood took over from there. Throughout the first half, the Lady Bulldogs spread the ball around and went into the break up 24. Greenwood eventually started the fourth quarter by invoking the mercy rule on their way to a 24-point victory.

Amelia Rucker led the Lady Bombers with 16 points. Mady Cartwright scored 22 points for the Lady Bulldogs, Anna Trusty had 16, and Abby Summitt added 11.

Mountain Home falls to 4-14 and 1-4 in the 5A-West. Greenwood improves to 12-4 and 3-0.

The Bombers did not fare any better in the boys’ game with a 54-41 loss to the Bulldogs. Similar to the girls’ game, Greenwood pulled away from Mountain Home in the first half. The difference was the Bombers made a comeback in the third quarter and cut the margin to two possessions. The run didn’t last, as the Bulldogs widened the gap and eventually went on to win by 13.

Mountain Home was led by Luke Proctor with 21 points, and Braiden Dewey chipped in 10. Sam Forbus finished with 19 points for Greenwood.

The Bombers drop to 2-15 overall and 0-5 in the league. The Bulldogs improve 6-11 and 2-3.

Mountain Home will wrap up its two-game home stand on Tuesday against Greenbrier.

In other 5A-West boys’ action, Greenbrier defeated Alma 52-38, Vilonia topped Van Buren 55-42, and Russellville beat Siloam Springs 55-40. On the girls’ side, Greenbrier got past Alma 68-63 in triple overtime, Vilonia breezed past Van Buren 59-35, and Russellville defeated Siloam Springs 50-35.
