Tommy Feliccia, the Mountain Home Fire Department and the rest of the Mountain Home Community have been working tirelessly since last year to bring a piece of 9/11 history to Mountain Home. The dedication of the September 11 Memorial on the Veterans Plaza 2000 will take place Monday morning after the Veteran’s Memorial Ceremony at 11.

During the 20th Anniversary Rememberance Ceremony at the Veterans Plaza last year, retired FDNY Captain Joseph Russo presented the City of Mountain Home with a piece of steel from a beam from the Twin Towers at New York’s World Trade Center. The presentation was made possible due to an official request put in by Mountain Home Firefighter, Tommy Feliccia and his family members, retired FDNY firefighter, Vincent Feliccia.

The small committee put together to create the memorial broke ground on January 12 of this year, and officially reached the donation goal of $15,000 to complete the project January 27.

The memorial features the Twin Towers made of stained and polished concrete, a silhouette of the Pentagon with Flight 93 engraved and the Twin Towers Steel placed inbetween the towers, becoming the focal point of the piece. The base of the memorial features the phrase “Never forget,” representing a terse reminder of the attacks on 9/11.

The memorial is the only one in North Central Arkansas, and just the 6th in the entire state.
