During the recent media for the new athletic department at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home, one activity that was introduced to the community has already been established. The Trailblazer bass fishing program has been competing over the last few years as a club sport, but this year, it will transition to being a sport sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Jackson Jones of Flippin is one of the school’s competitive anglers, and he says it’s exciting to be a part of this team that’s helping the athletic program get started.
Jones says he is part of a group of anglers that see bass fishing as one of their favorite pasttimes. He’s been around the program for a while, and he is looking forward to being one of the fishermen to help the team’s transition from a club sport to a sanctioned sport.
ASU-Mountain Home’s bass fishing team is expected to compete in Major League Fishing and the Strike King Bassmaster College Series.
