Monday basketball schedule includes MH freshmen beginning district tourney

Basketball makes up much of the local Monday schedule as several area junior high teams will be in postseason play.

Both of Mountain Home’s freshman teams will be paired with West Memphis Wonder to begin the Northeast Arkansas District Tournament. The Junior Lady Bombers will host the Lady Lions on the junior high campus with the tip-off set for 5. Mountain Home’s boys will face Wonder at 5:30 at Lehr Arena on the campus of the Academies of West Memphis.

The 2A-1 Junior District Tournament will get underway at Cotter. On the girls’ side, the host Junior Lady Warriors take on Greenland at 4:30, and Ozark Mountain plays Haas Hall-Bentonville at 7. On the boys’ bracket, top-seeded Ozark Mountain will be paired with Greenland at 5:45, and Yellville-Summit faces Haas Hall-Rogers at 8:15.

A few area teams will compete in the semifinals of the 1A-2 Junior District Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The girls’ game between Calico Rock and top-seeded Rural Special tips off at 4. In the boys’ games, Calico Rock takes on top-seeded Concord at 5, and Norfork plays West Side at 7.

Four area teams will begin action in the 3A-2 Junior District Tournament at Newport. On the girls’ side, top-seeded Melbourne gets underway against the host Junior Lady Greyhounds at 4, and Mountain View will be matched up with Cave City at 6:30. The boys’ game between Salem and Melbourne is scheduled for 7:45.

Two area teams will take part in the semifinals of the 2A-2 Junior District Tournament at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden. Marshall’s girls face the host Junior Lady Greyhounds at 4, and the top-seeded Izard County boys will go up against White County Central at 7.

Valley Springs’ girls will play the opener of the 3A-1 Junior District Tournament on their home floor. It will be a battle between Junior Lady Tigers as Valley Springs and Green Forest tip off at 5.

On the high school level, Bakersfield entertains Summersville, the Gainesville girls travel to Koshkonong, Dora’s girls are home against Seymour, the Dora boys make the trip to Norwood, Mammoth Spring hosts Hillcrest for Senior Night, Bergman heads to Lincoln, and Omaha travels to Jasper.
