Monday basketball results include MH freshmen splitting district tourney openers

The Mountain Home freshman basketball teams had mixed results on Monday in the opening round of the Northeast Arkansas District Tournament as both teams played West Memphis Wonder.
The Junior Lady Bombers destroyed the Lady Lions 64-5. Jayla Yonkers led Mountain Home with 11 points, and Cara Jackson and Laken Anderson added 10 each. The Junior Lady Bombers will remain at home on Thursday for their second round game.
The season came to an end for Mountain Home’s boys as they were edged out by Wonder 32-31 at West Memphis. The Junior Bombers were led by Rhett Gilbert with 11 points.

Four area teams picked up victories on the opening night of the 2A-1 Junior District Tournament at Cotter. On the girls’ side, the host Junior Lady Warriors defeated Greenland 30-25, and Ozark Mountain pounded Haas Hall-Bentonville 47-6. In the boys’ games, Yellville-Summit breezed past Haas Hall-Rogers 48-21, and Ozark Mountain pounded Greenland 48-18.

Four area teams competed in the semifinals of the 1A-2 Junior District Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. In boys’ action, Norfork fell to host Junior Eagles 48-25, and Calico Rock lost to Concord 42-26. Calico Rock’s girls also fell to Rural Special 31-29.

The 3A-2 Junior District Tournament got underway at Newport. Salem’s boys were one and done after losing to Melbourne 40-24. Melbourne’s boys invoked the mercy rule as they thrashed Newport 60-29.

Two area teams took part in the semifinals of the 2A-2 Junior District Tournament at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden.
Izard County’s boys advanced to Thursday’s title game with a 46-34 win over White County Central. Garrett Dillard was the Junior Cougars’ top scorer with 18 points, and Sebastian Nussbickel chipped in 11. Izard County improves to 15-3 on the season, and their final opponent will by South Side-Bee Branch.
The season came to an end for Marshall on the girls’ side. The Junior Lady Bobcats fell to Sloan-Hendrix by a final of 42-26.

Elsewhere, Mountain Home Christian Academy had mixed results as they hosted a pair of boys’ games against Ozarks Christian for Senior Night.
The Eagles took the varsity game over the Titans 70-59. Riley Peglar paced Mountain Home Christian with 19 points, Kolby Woods scored 18, Evan Palella had 16, and Jordan Woods provided 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Mountain Home Christian did not fare as well in the junior high contest as they lost to Ozarks Christian 54-50. The Junior Eagles were led by Reif Murray and Palella with 15 points each, and Konner Woods finished with 10.

Mammoth Spring swept its high school games over Hillcrest on Senior Night.
The Lady Bears destroyed the Lady Screamin’ Eagles 61-24. Brynn Washam was Mammoth Spring’s leading scorer with 25 points, and Laney Young and Tay Davis each ended up with 10.
Mammoth Spring also put the mercy rule in effect in the boys’ game with a 67-34 victory over Hillcrest. Nathaneal Rogers led the Bears with 14 points, Brayden Cray scored 13, and Blake Rogers added 11.

Bergman’s boys just escaped with another win on Monday. The Pahters went on the road and squeaked by Lincoln 67-66.

Omaha was swept in a pair of high school games at Jasper. The Pirates won the 1A-1 East conference title and went unbeaten in the league as they topped the Eagles in the boys’ game 67-58. Jasper’s girls also beat Omaha 57-42 to finish as conference co-champions.
