MHHS splits home games with Harrison

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results on Tuesday as they hosted their biggest rivals from Harrison. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers began the night by defeating the Lady Goblins 57-45. Early on, the game had three ties and three lead changes, and Mountain Home ended the opening quarter with a one-point advantage. The Lady Bombers started pulling away in the second period as they held Harrison to one field goal and went into the locker room up double digits. The Lady Goblins briefly cut the margin back under 10 in the third quarter, but for the most part, the two teams played fairly even in the second half as Mountain Home went on to win by 12.

Kamryn Mullin led the Lady Bombers with 12 points, Lauren Wehmeyer scored 11, and Parker Huskey added 10. Brooklyn Mitchell had 17 points for Harrison, and Clare Barger chipped in 15.

Mountain Home improves to 13-11 on the season and 4-4 in the 5A-West. The Lady Goblins fall to 8-14 and 2-7.

The Bombers did not fare as well in the boys’ game as they lost to Harrison 59-51. Mountain Home started the game on a good note as they led the Goblins 18-10 at the end of the first quarter. The tide turned as Harrison outscored the Bombers 21-9 in the second period. The game was kept close for a while as the Goblins’ lead at the end of the third period was two, but in the final quarter, they shot 11-of-12 from the free throw line on their way to an eight-point victory.

Mountain Home was led by Hagan Robb with 19 points. For Harrison, Kason Hilligoss had 17 points, Cole Cecil and Ryder Scribner each provided 12, and Blake Shrum finished with 11.

The Bombers drop to 13-11 overall and 4-4 in the league. Harrison is now 17-7 and 7-2.

In other 5A-West boys’ action, Russellville got past Greenbrier 52-48, Siloam Springs topped Alma 54-36, and Van Buren squeaked by Greenwood 57-55. On the girls’ side, Russellville routed Greenbrier 55-21, Siloam Springs beat Alma 48-40, and Greenwood destroyed Van Buren 64-17.
