The Izard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested one person and issued a warrant for another for vandalizing a church.

According to the sheriff’s office Facebook page, on Wednesday, 22-year-old Makayla Vickers of Melbourne was arrested and charged with a class D felony of criminial mischief in the first degree. Officials report a warrant has been issued for the same charge for 24-year-old Lane Morris of Brockwell.

The charges stem from a report made on Saturday regarding vandalism to the Old Philadelphia Church on Larkin Road. Vickers and Morris have been accused of spray painting graffiti on the church and steps.

A caretaker of the church stated efforts to clean the spray paint off the building were not successful and the church would need to be repainted.

Officials state this is a case where the public’s involvement has been crucial in obtaining the information needed to lead investigators to Vickers and Morris.
