2 area residents injured when pickup truck strikes dog, overturns

A one-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Howell County resulted in injuries to two West Plains residents. Fifty-seven-year-old Penny Manes was transported by air ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Springfield with serious injuries, and 65-year-old Kenneth Manes was sent by ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Kenneth Manes was the driver of a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 63, and Penny Manes was his passenger. They were nearly five miles south of West Plains when their vehicle reportedly struck a dog, traveled off the left side of the roadway, hit a mailbox and overturned. Penny Manes was not wearing a seat belt, and she was ejected from the truck.

Kenneth Manes’ vehicle was totaled in the 7:50 a.m. accident.
