Teenage occupant killed in 1-vehicle accident; driver arrested

A one-vehicle accident in Missouri resulted in the death of a Springfield juvenile, minor injuries to a Rogersville man and charges against a Springfield man for impaired driving and fleeing the accident scene. The unidentified 17-year-old male was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at the scene in Greene County, 18-year-old Jacob Zimmerman was transported by a private vehicle to Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, and 18-year-old Benjamin Sugg was transported to the Greene County Jail in Springfield.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Sugg was the driver of an SUV on Missouri Route D, and Zimmerman and the juvenile were his passengers. They were nearly two miles north of Rogersville when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned. Zimmerman and the minor were reportedly not wearing their seat belts.

Sugg is facing felony counts of driving while intoxicated involving the death of another and leaving the scene of a fatal crash and misdemeanor counts of careless and imprudent driving involving a crash and being a minor visibly intoxicated.

The SUV was totaled in the 1:58 a.m. accident.
