Sales tax numbers see steady increases for April

The sales tax revenue for Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home remains steady for April.

According Mountain Homes Director of Finance and Treasury Alma Clark, the city collected a total of $539,967 in city sales tax revenue for April which is an increase of 4.26% for the month. Year-to-date, the city has seen a total increase of $63,257 or 2.58%.

Figures released by Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize show Baxter County’s revenue portion equals $461,870. This time last year, Baxter County received $446,603 which is an increase of $15,267 or 3.4%.

Sales tax reports are released by the state Department of Finance and Administration two months after the taxes are collected by area businesses. The following numbers were received in March, which reflect area spending from the month of February.

Mountain Home received $249,852 in county sales tax. When compared to last year’s total of $241,593, which is a increase of 3.41%. The year-to-date increase equals $29,961 or 2.94%.

Other Baxter County cities receiving revenue from the county’s sales tax include:

– Gassville, which received $42,294;

– Cotter, which received $17,260;

– Lakeview, which received $15,098;

– Salesville, which received $9,214;

– Norfork, which received $9,058;

– Briarcliff, which received $4,597; and

– Big Flat, which received $1,714.

Baxter County received $202,740 in revenue from its 0.25% sales tax for maintenance and operation of the Baxter County Detention Center.

Mountain Home received $202,487 from its 0.375% sales tax to support its police and fire departments. At this time last year, the city received $194,208, which is a monthly increase of 4.26%. The year-to-date increase is nearly $23,734 or 2.85%.

Mountain Home has collected nearly $269,983 for March from the park improvement sales tax, which is $49,699 more than needed for Bond Payment of $220,283 for 2024.

Park operation sales tax for March equals $134,991.
