June was on track to become the 8th driest June on record in the city of Mountain Home but Wednesday’s heavy rainfall thankfully has raised totals into average territory.

Leading up to Wednesday’s early morning storm only 1.29 inches of rain had fallen for the month with only 0.01 inches of rain falling in over two weeks. In a two hour period from approximatly 7:15 to 9:15 1.37 inches of rain fell at the stations of KTLO, Classic Hits and the Boot the official reporting station for the National Weather Service in Mountain Home. This brings the monthly total to 2.66 inches of recorded rainfall which easily removes this June for contention in the top 10 driest Junes on record. The driest June on record is actually two seperate years- 1933 and 1952 in which no rain was recorded.

KTLO News had reported earlier this week that concerns were growing for the Twin Lakes area over drought conditions with the U.S. Drought Monitor showing much of north central Arkansas abnormally dry. That last update was June 18 and the hope is that this recent rain brings positive change to that map when new figures are released in the coming days.

The weekend shows more heat and humidity building into the area with a 40 percent chance of precipitation Saturday and Sunday. We will be watching for extreme heat building into the area Tuesday as temperatures are forecasted at 98 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday.
