An Ozark County man had to be tased after he led a deputy on a high speed pursuit and resisted arrest. It was the second arrest in three days for 52-year-old Gregory Hambelton of Dora, who is facing five charges for his latest run-in with the law.
According to the probable cause affidavit from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy saw Hambelton riding a motorcycle Sunday afternoon near Dora. He knew Hambelton had a suspended driver’s license and did not have a motorcycle endorsement because he was arrested on the same charges three days earlier.
When the deputy initiated the traffic stop, Hambelton accelerated with the deputy in pursuit. Speeds reached 90 miles-per-hour before Hambelton stopped on Missouri Route CC.
When Hambelton got off the motorcycle, he refused to comply with the deputy’s commands and instead tried to record the encounter with his cell phone. The deputy warned him he would get tased if he didn’t comply and put his hands behind his back. Hambelton instead got back on his bike and was tased and taken into custody.
When the ambulance arrived to remove the taser barbs from Hambelton, the deputy opened the doors of his truck to get Hambelton out, and the suspect spat on the deputy.
Hambelton is facing a felony count of resisting arrest along with misdemeanor charges of fourth-degree assault, careless and imprudent driving, driving while license was suspended and operating a motorcycle when his license is not validated for such operation.
Hambleton is being held in the Ozark County Jail.
